FAQ


Q1. What are your fees? How does this work?
A1. We work strictly on commission. If there is no collection, there is no fee for any reason. The commission rate depends on the type of business you have, the age, the dollar amount and whether Granite is the best resource for your needs. The commission rates are competitive – but realistic. Give us a call for a specific quote, which will generally be provided immediately.


Q2. Is there a minimum balance you will accept?
A2. Yes, $25.00. Being honest, we won’t spend a great deal of time on a small balance account, but it is still owed, we will call and send notices.


Q3. Do I have to have a lot of accounts?
A3. No. Naturally, we are in business to make money, but we are also providing a service that is necessary.


Q4. How do you collect from people? I keep hearing all of those horror stories?
A4. Take a look at the Consumer Protection portion of the Granite website. We have deliberately placed the laws that we have to follow, links to other professional sources that might be of benefit to the debtor. We also have sections on Credit Repair, Consumer Counseling Center Advice, what to do if you are a victim of Identity Theft and our Privacy Policy. Granite is a soft-core collection agency. Our strongest desire is to work with the debtor so everyone can become a winner.


Q5. Do you report to the credit bureaus?
A5. Yes, but only after 35 days from the date of assignment – and only if necessary. If the debtor is willing to structure a method to honor the debt, how could we be low enough to penalize him or her by reporting?


Q6. Do you sue people or businesses?
A6. Yes, but only with your specific written authorization and only if there is simply no voluntary manner in which to convince the debtor to pay without a lawsuit. I’ve been in collections for a long time, and have been involved in literally thousands of lawsuits over the years. There has never been a suit filed that was necessary. Never in all of my years of experience trying to work with people.


Q7. If I want to use you, do I have to sign a contract?
A7. No. If you want one, by all means, but the reality is if you aren’t happy with our services, you won’t be assigning new accounts anyway. For healthcare clients I do offer upon request a Business Associates Agreement which should be in place to stay in compliance with HIPAA.


Q8. How do I know what you are doing? How can I get reports, or status, or even see that you are trying to collect?
A8. Every client will be provided a log-on that will enable you to look at your assigned accounts at any time, 24/7/365. We provide access to the very specific efforts of the collections on your assigned accounts. You can run reports, you can report payments, you can observe, learn – and we are always available by phone.


Q9. How do I assign my accounts?
A9. What works for you? You can log-in and assign on-line (you will still need to mail/scan/e-mail/fax all supporting documents), by mail, by fax, by e-mail scans. What works for you works for us. The listing forms are all on this website.


Q10. What if I have a suggestion for you?
